Herbal medicine is only one part of Tradtitional Chinese Medicine. Our Ear Formula can help you break the cycle of antibiotics, but acupuncturists and herbalists will always emphasize what you can do for yourself. Healing is both passive (taking our Ear Formula) and active (healthy lifestyle).
There is A LOT a parent can do to feel more in control of their children's health and keep the infections from recurring. Since ear aches usually appear in people with underlying "phlegm and dampness", it is important to do what you can to reduce this to a minimum. The most important change you can make is in the child's or adult's diet. Also, swimmers or divers have fluid build up in the ear and this results in ear aches as well. Our "Ear Formula" can help them because it dries up excess fluid, whether it is internally (bad diet and/or weak digestion) or externally generated (swimming, external pathogen).
The first thing you must cut back on is non organic milk products. Milk, especially from cows injected with growth hormones and fed a constant supply of antibiotics (the growth hormones create such a large volume of milk in the cow that it gets mastitis, or an infection of the udder, so to counteract this, the cow is fed a constant dosage of antibiotics in it's feed) creates more dampness and phlegm in the person drinking it. Antibiotics by their very nature damage the digestion, killing all benfecial bacteria along with the bad. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, bad digestion leads to more dampness and phlegm. This vicious cycle is the main reason why constant dosages of antibiotics perpetuates the ear infection cycle. This same cycle is perpetuated when you drink cow's milk when those cows have been given high dosages of antibiotics.
Most importantly - if you drink milk, only drink organic! And, because toxins concentrate in fat, buy only ORGANIC butter. Cows fed an organic diet, particularly cows given free access to pasture, do not create milk that generates excessive dampness and phlegm. Your mother told you, "You are what you eat". This is true for us as well as the cow. WE are what the cow eats. Grass fed cows have more omega three fatty acids in their milk and the difference in taste is unbelievable. If cost is an issue, buy high quality ingredients and consume less. With food, you really do get what you pay for. Some people find that they cannot tolerate ANY dairy, and in stubborn cases, elimination of dairy is required.
What should be consumed daily is organic yogurt, especially unsweetened, or soy yogurt if dairy is not well tolerated. It is CRUCIAL to rebuild the beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract, especially if multiple rounds of antibiotics have been taken. This step cannot be skipped in chronic conditions. Yogurt makes a great addition to organic whole fruit smoothies. Do not buy prepared supermarket smoothies as they tend to have too much sugar and use juice and not whole fruit.
The following is a recipe for an organic whole fruit and yogurt smoothie that will boost overall immunity due to it's high antioxidant levels and probiotics:
1 cup frozen fruit choosing from a combination of:
Açaí BERRY PUREE, bought at any health food store or natural products section of most major supermarkets, sold in the freezer section. If they don't have it, ask for it. A company named "Sambazon" makes a great product.
Blueberries, strawberries, and/or raspberries. These are also high in antioxidants and have a low sugar content.
1 cup organic yogurt
1 banana
Enough rice milk to blend. 
Kids love smoothies! If their digestion is very weak, add some ginger to the smoothie to make it easier on the digestion.
Some people find that eliminating ALL dairy is helpful in extreme cases. If you need to eliminate dairy products all together than just add other high calcium foods to your daily diet, such as calcium fortified organic tofu or soy milk, broccoli, and dark leafy greens such as kale or collard greens. Try cooking collard greens with bacon, onions, chicken stock and a splash of balsamic vinegar. Cook until tender. YUM!

The following are acupuncture/acupressure points that can be done on any child or adult with earaches, whether it is acute, or chronic. The easiest way to make sure you are on the right point is that it will be tender. When rubbing the point use your intention and focus on the point to do the funtion that is indicated in the definition of the acupressure point.

Large Intestine 4 (LI4), also called "Adjoining Valleys"

This point is on the hand, in the tender spot between the thumb and first finger.
This acupuncture point is used very frequently and is one of the most commonly prescribed. It is used on any imbalance that affects the head, so it is used to address earaches, as well as headaches, or sinus problems. It has the added function of helping to expel pathogens so it is often used when the patient is having a cold or flu. Rub frequently and freely during an earache episode, OR when the person has chronic ear infections and is starting to get sick. Often, when acupressue is combined with our EAR FORMULA gummies as soon as the child or adult FIRST gets sick, an ear infection can be prevented. Traditional Chinese Medicine relies heavily on prevention as the first and best course of action to take.

San Jiao 17 (SJ 17), also called "Wind Screen"

SJ 17 is used with any disorder of the ear, especially ear infections, or tinnitus. It is located in the hollow hidden by the ear lobe. If it is too tender to press or rub, often rubbing the side that is not affected will produce quite positive results. If both sides are affected, then use other points.
This point shows that there are many techniques that an acupuncturist can use to treat people, especially children who are often afraid of needles, due to endless cycles of vaccinations. We often use tuning forks on children or nervous adults, as the acupuncture point can be stimulated with sound and vibration as well as through pressure or a needle. Children love tuning forks.

SJ 5 "Outer Gate"

This point is located in the space which is created by the junction of the radius and the ulna, and will often be extemely tender. This point has multiple functions. First and foremost, it is located on the same acupuncture channel as SJ 17, the point below the ear lobe. Acupuncture channels are like rivers and what you do at one end effects the entire channel. This is a major point for ear aches, and is easliy found on a child. It also has the added function of expelling pathogens, so it, like L can be used prior to the onset of the ear infection, as soon as the person starts to feel like they are coming down with a cold or flu. It is also used frequently to address stubborn colds that seem to linger as well as chronic ear infections.

Stomach 36 (St 36), "Leg Three Miles"

This point is located right off the anterior crest of the tibia.
This is another very well used acupuncture point and is used to boost overall immunity and vitality. It is particularly useful in children or adults with poor digestion, which can often be the root cause of chronic illnesses such as ear infections. It is called "Leg Three Miles" because it is said that if you are so tired you can no longer walk, if you stimulate this point you will be able to walk another three miles.
